CUBA: Chustro Heaven!

I remember couple of month ago saw this video about Cuba Street Racing, and I can say it’s amazing how these people bring back from death these old cars. For a chustro owner sometime find parts for your old car it is a pain in the ass, but these people not just create their own spare parts, they do whatever is possible to make them run. I Cuba and most parts of the world street racing is illegal, but the difference between us and Cubans are the race track.

We have race tracks, well at least in Puerto Rico what is left of them… The lack of maintenance by the owners is something that basically doom all race tracks in Puerto Rico and also the government does not help at all. It’s good to hear that the Cuban government are taking action to promote the movement, at least in small steps.

Haiti Racing? Wait.... WHAT?

Haiti apparently is not like we always hear in the news, you know… poverty, earthquakes and shit. I live in a "third world country" according to someone in the US State Department, but that doesn’t say I can’t afford to have fun in cars.

Here in the island we have many of the fastest cars in the world. But when I saw this video on YouTube about racing in Haiti... I was pumped to go there and see it by myself. Here is a clip of an open road racing, I think there is no FIA bullshit over there, no rules of safety just like the old days.

Home Made Aftermarket ECU powered by Arduino

For all gear head that like DIY! Here is an aftermarket Arduino based ECU. It's very simple, powerful and cheap. The creator says with $160.00 you can own one. Here is the Wiki site: RusEFI. The creator had the need of gain more power to his Ford Festiva by adding a Turbo, but aftermarket ECU were out of budget and with a high price tag, so he found a cost efficient way and invented this.

What's the "chustro" experiment?

Welcome to my new blog! The "Chustro" Experiment. This is the story of the common people's car. And BTW we are talking about people that can not afford a new car! You know! Old, rusty and "custom faded colors". That's the real people's car. The one that flood inside when it rains, the one that left you at the corner of your street, the one that help repeal mosquito with smoke. So... What's the "chustro" experiment? Well... first of all let's define the word: "CHUSTRO" ...Well I'm not sure if the word "chustro" is in the dictionary.... But here is a perfect example of what it is:

"Chustro: It refers to a deteriorated old car, that works in perfect conditions. Also a way to call a car that does not want to get rid off, because it has a special connection" This is not just my story, is the story of everyone who think it self as a "Gear Head". The people who bring back from death their cars and give them a new opportunity to burn tires on the streets.
